Partnership

Collaboration is at the heart of innovation. We offer various partnership models to match your ambitions. Whether the goal is to solve a specific challenge, exploit our IP assets or join a strategic RDI programme, each model is designed to maximize impact.

Find the model that suits you well

At LIST, we unite top-tier expertise, high Technology Readiness Level innovations, and state-of-the-art facilities to offer capabilities unique in our region. We focus on projects where we can deliver fast, meaningful impact—transforming ambitious ideas into concrete results and real value for our partners.

When a partner wishes to contribute to LIST’s research, a collaborative framework can be established. Partners may contribute in-kind (expertise, resources) and/or in-cash to the research effort. Intellectual property (IP) arising from the project, as well as associated access rights, are allocated fairly according to the contributions, work packages, and interests of all partners.

Objective

  • Develop solutions to real-world challenges.

Results

  • Ownership is determined by inventorship.
  • Partners may obtain royalty-bearing licenses for applications within their domain.

Duration

  • Typically spans multiple years.

Budget

  • Fair compensation for the use of joined and exclusive joint IP.

Commitment

  • Best efforts basis for both partners.

When a partner seeks to leverage LIST’s expertise and requests that LIST conduct research on their behalf, a contract research agreement is proposed. In this model, the partner defines the research objectives and retains full ownership of the resulting outcomes.

Objective

  • Deliver a tailor-made, unique solution addressing a specific and urgent need.

Results

  • Results are fully owned by the partner.
  • LIST receives a license-back to use the results outside the partner’s application domain.

Duration

  • Typically 1–2 years.

Budget

  • Based on a full cost model.
  • Includes market-conform compensation.

Commitment

  • LIST commits on a best-efforts basis.

When a partner requires services provided by LIST—such as access to specialized equipment, expert analyses, or technical support—LIST issues a service offer, valid for 60 days. This model focuses on delivering rapid, high-quality outcomes using LIST’s established capabilities.

Objective

  • Make the most of LIST’s unique expertise and equipment to deliver immediate, actionable results.

Results

  • Know-how remains with LIST.
  • No new IP is generated.
  • Reports and all service deliverables belong to the client.

Duration

  • Typically spans weeks to months, with the possibility of recurring engagements.

Budget

  • Based on commercial fees that do not disturb the market.

Commitment

  • LIST provides an obligation of results.

When a partner is interested in exploiting LIST’s intellectual property, LIST offers a license agreement granting rights to use the IP within a defined application domain.

Objective

  • Enable the exploitation of a LIST-owned IP asset.

Results

  • The IP remains owned by LIST.
  • The licensee receives a royalty-bearing license limited to their application domain.

Duration

  • Typically up to 20 years.

Budget

  • Structured around a mix of upfront fees, milestone payments, and royalties (including running royalties and anti-shelving clauses).
  • The licensee always contributes to IP-related costs.

Commitment

  • The licensee commits to the serious and active exploitation of the licensed IP.

Our partners' voices

Romain Hansen

Vice President of product development Europe Middle East and Africa region, Goodyear

The value that comes in the partnership with LIST is that we actually focus on research work, something that is difficult for companies because such work does not deliver results within a year or two. It's a longer-term investment into science. And this partnership guarantees our continued effort to research and find new solutions.

Marc Jacobs

CEO and Founder, Molecular Plasma Group (MPG)

Our focus is to click organic chemistry onto any surface using atmospheric plasma. It's a very advanced process that lets us do that. With the recent geopolitical context, we are applying this technique to defence solutions. Together with LIST, we are contributing to several defence projects.

Claude Maack

CEO and Founder, Gradel

We decided to diversify in a new technology, making flight hardware components. The ground technology has been developed in collaboration with LIST in a joint lab where we have really a close collaboration with the team. It has a huge impact to save resources. Half of mass is half energy you need, so ultra lightweight structures make a lot of sense.

Henri Reding

Safety Leadership senior expert, ArcelorMittal corporate H&S

The highlight of the collaboration between ArcelorMittal and LIST is certainly Heat2Power®. It allows us to recover the waste heat from our rolling mills. In 2050, we need to be carbon free, that's our goal. We hope that LIST will be our partner to that objective.

Thomas Schoos

Director-General for International, European and Internal Affairs, Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity

LIST is working with the ministry on three thematic levels: water, biodiversity and the policy support level. LIST is also helping us represent Luxembourg in various international fora. So the link between science and policy is hugely important. It has been because it is helping us design good policies. It will be because it is currently under threat, in the geopolitical context. Thus, we will have to protect the voice of science in good policy making.

Tom Eischen

Head of Group Strategy, Innovation and Acquisition, Encevo

We have a challenging project, FlexBeAn, with CREOS where we try to figure out solutions for the volatility of renewable energy in the electricity system. The results of the project that we lead together with the scientific community and LIST in Luxembourg, are very important for our progress. And the results of our projects, when we put them in place, bring an added value to the stakeholders of the system and to the entire society.
